GW Confessions (and absolution) thread
Nobody's perfect. We all grab our pitchforks and torches when someone has an idea that's, for lack of a better term, really lame.
While some of these folks are complete whackos that are stubbornly ignorant - there are also many that are simply well-intentioned newcomers. About this second group - we know about them because we've all been there - starting the game doing dumb things until someone guides (or humiliates) you to do it right.
Here are some bad choices I made when I was new to GW. Here are the most embarrassing ones that come to mind.
1.) My early monk had a sword and shield. For some reason I thought the higher level monk abilities (which I never researched) would make me into a kickass kung-fu fighting man! Just look at that /dance emote - How can you not think that? (manual? who reads manuals?)
2.) My first character in pre-sear found a max hammer from crossing the wall. I went around trying to sell it as a "rare" hammer (I didn't know about "gold" and "purple" drops then) - Customers laughed at my prize and I never knew why.
3.) The very first day I played GW I got pissed because there wasn't a "pause" button like every game should have
4.) (common one) In the first day I couldn't figure out the camera controls so I spent much of my time looking at the ground
5.) I pretended to know what an "aggro circle" was for fear of being called a n00b. So I unknowingly aggroed everything and shouted, "WTF? Who's the idiot who aggroed them?" just like everyone else on the team.
I'm sure I'll think of more ... but it'd be nice to read some of your most n00bish confessions, too.

My first character was a N/W with an axe and shield. I thought I was invincible because I could use Vamp Gaze/Touch to heal myself... and since killing things gave me energy, I could never die. I was the uber tank! :P

When trying to find my brother and friend for the first time, I couldn't no matter how hard I tried ... We knew about the districts ... we were both in 'Ascalon City district 3' ... finally after about an hour of frustration .. I found my friend ... who happened to be my brothers roomate. So we were saying 'you n00b get your ass over here ... by sir tydeus' my brother would respond ... im there and your not ... 'then I said ... okay idiot meet by the big fire ...' ... he said 'wtf are you talking about there is no fire'
somehow i skipped pre-seared altogether ... and so did my friend ...
How about this one ... I never knew what attribute points were until yaks bend in beta ... or my first guild versus guild battle ... the radar/beacon for calling ... confused the hell out of me, never had a clue about what that did ... ahhh those were the simple old days ...

- I didn't know you could automatically run - so my middle finger was always on the W key - even if I had to do other things while running. My fingers had to play a game of Twister on the keyboard.

I thought that if only one member of a group was looking at me when I aggroed, only that one would attack me :| I wasted quite some time trying to figure out why they all linked.

When I went to the Underworld for the first time I got an ecto but didn't know it had any value, so I sold it to the merchant for 100 gold!
On my first character I bought ascalon armor, dyed it silver, and put healing runes on every piece thinking the runes would stack.
I spent my first day (about 5 hours) walking around Pre-Searing killing stuff solo and taking quests saying to myself "Is this it? This game sucks!". Then I figured out how to go to Post-Searing. I didn't actually start really having fun until I went on the first mission in Post Ascalon. I don't even think I found the Ascalon Arena till I was level 15, and then it was to late to play in Ascalon. Didnt do that until my second character.

My one and only newb moment.
My first gold drop was a Max Damage Req. 8 20/20 fire staff with a +10 Energy Insightful Staff Head and a +5 armor staff wrapping. I replaced the head piece with a +8 Hale Staff head and the wrapping with a +21 Fortitude Wrapping.
My perfect staff and I mess it up. Now I'm willing to pay any price for another +10 energy staff head. My starting offer is 20 million gold worth of crystallins.

I sold a black dye for 400gp thinking I was a great dye trader in pre-sear. However I did make 3K from just buying and selling.

On the first day I played the game, I heard you could kneel at the gods' statues and a spirit would appear with cool stuff. So I was in Ashford Abbey (Pre) typing in the kneel emote a hundred times trying to get the damn thing to appear, only to find out that it doesn't work in Pre.

I sold a black dye and countless other amounts of dyes to Merchant.
And i punch myself now, as Black Dyes were worth like 20k each then .
Think thats about it.

I spent 5 min. in pre-sear Fort Ranik askeing where the collector was who would give me leggings for my warrior, only to find out I was standing next to him. I felt smart.
Other one: I got a silver dye for my ranger (first char) and immedietly used it on my chest armor. It was only later that I realized that I should wait until I get my final armor to dye it and I could've made some money off the dye.

when the game first launched(not the beta's but the preorder thing) i spent the first two days farming in presearing, thinking of how rich i was getting, even though i was selling all my dyes to the trader, although i was more than able to get my armor as soon as i went through searing(at level 9) as i had about 5k and several full stacks of materials
also, i spent a bit of time over the wall killing the char, and i was quite pissed that i couldnt find all these runes and upgrades i had unlocked, i figured i must have kept accidentally selling them
also i kept going back and doing the first mission over and over, and didnt realize it, i thought every mission was like the searing and it could only be done once, eventually i was like "damn, they really need to have a mission where you DONT run from the damn char at the end"

some dumb things ive done on my first few days were:
When i found fort ranik in presearing i thought i was the first person to ever find it (little did i know how unpopular international districts were...)
I thought i was godly to all monsters with my Frenzy + Life Siphon combo... (little did i know what post-searing had in store for me...)
I found a bunch of dyes in pre-searing and sold them all to mechants thinking, hey 1gp for a usless item, why not?
Since i have played D2 for many years i was constantly clicking on every bad guy.. until a pop up told me to stop killing my mouse
thats about it...

I think I blocked this one out of my memory until now.
When I first arrived in post-sear - I was taken aback when someone wanted to show me his "purple hammer." I thought the guy was being rude.
